'HUG ME' by Si Chan AW12Need a hug? Upcoming designer Si Chan releases first collection into the palms of the public. The London College of Fashion attendant's convocation is the epitome of human memories, experiences and feelings. The 6 outfits were showcased as part of Chan's A/W 2012-2013 collection. Regardless of the number, stitched into the garments are their own tale. Individualised to the wearer. Evoking senses of human contact, the padding replicates the warm touch of companionship, whilst the youthful colour palette is a cathartic release of childish expression; relating to Chan's own accompaniment with loneliness in the past. "Moreover, this small collection is developed like a short story of life." says Chan. Having faced confinement from the hoi polloi of his hometown of Macao, S.A.R. , China, he distilled the essence of himself into his collection. Hence the significance of hands. The headline of which, being the exaggerated green puffer jacket, is accentuated with a series of linked hands. As if to reinforce the wearer that they are safe from harm. Alongside the elementary white hoodie, in lieu, it has now been transformed with an array of multicoloured mitts - resembling traditional kitchen cleaner gloves. The compilation has been emblazoned in Crafts Magazine, Not Just Label and Got City Girl to name a few. Attaining critical acclaim. It appears that having such a distinct niche has chiseled a rather whimsical path for Chan's future career in design. His collection sure is handy, for more information, see his profile on Showtime (http://showtime.arts.ac.uk/chansiieong) or keep up to date with him personally (http://www.facebook.com/siieong.chan).
